This module explores the evidence behind effective homework and its impact on pupil outcomes. Participants will examine why the quality and purpose of homework matter more than quantity, explore strategies for aligning homework with classroom learning, and design meaningful tasks that reinforce learning, promote independence and maximise pupil progress.

Aims: 
Explain the evidence base surrounding homework and describe the characteristics of effective homework that supports pupil learning. 
Analyse how homework can be designed to reinforce classroom learning through purposeful retrieval, practice and curriculum alignment. 
Design a high quality homework task that is appropriately matched to learning intentions, supports pupil independence and is likely to improve learning outcomes.

The Developing Literacy Across the Curriculum module highlights early reading as the foundation of all learning. Participants will explore how to integrate reading, writing, and oral language skills across subjects. The session also focuses on the explicit teaching of vocabulary to support understanding and ensure all students can access the curriculum. 
 
Aims:  
Recognise the foundational role of early reading in supporting learning across all subject areas. 
Demonstrate how to integrate reading, writing, oral language skills into cross-curricular teaching. 
Evaluate how explicit vocabulary instruction can support pupils access the curriculum.

The Identifying CPD Needs and Sourcing Professional Development module focuses on using reflective practice and to drive growth. Participants will explore how to assess their own development needs and engage with expert colleagues. The session also highlights the value of educational research in selecting impactful professional learning opportunities. 

Aims:  
Recognise the role of reflective practice in identifying areas for professional growth. 
Analyse educational research to inform the selection of relevant and effective CPD opportunities  
Develop a personalised professional development plan aligned with individual goals and evidence-based practice.

The Observing Expert Teachers and Inter-School Visits module emphasises the importance of ongoing professional growth through learning from expert colleagues. Participants will explore how purposeful observations enhance teaching practice.  
 
Aims:  
Recognise the many forms of valuable contribution, none of which requires a formal leadership role. 
Distinguish between focused, trust-based observation and a tick-box exercise, and plan one of your own.
